(July 2020) Day umpteen of lockdown, but the government relented ever so slightly and announced that we were allowed to do self-drive drive tours through national parks. We were desperate to get out, so we headed to Swellendam and the Bontebok National Park. It's about 2 hours away from Cape Town, and it was a much welcome escape from home. As the name suggests, the park is inhabited by buck. It's a small park, so the drive only took about two hours, and we had the place entirely to ourselves.
Technically, we weren't allowed to stay over unless we were on business. I figured I could get away with a story about photography as a business, but the guest house owners in Swellendam weren't bothered at all and didn't question us. We stayed at a lovely farm, fed some horses, went for a walk, and enjoyed the stars that night.
